Recent tax audits and investigations carried out by the tax authorities have increased focus on Reinvestment Allowance claims. This has led to substantial tax adjustments as well as hefty penalties in many cases. The tax authorities’ treatment of Reinvestment Allowance claims and interpretation of the related law, namely Schedule 7A of the Income Tax Act 1967, are set out in the recently issued Public Ruling (PR) 2/2008 which is to take effect from year of assessment 2008.
